View Full Version : is Roxio crappy?

I installed a version of Roxio 6 on a XP laptop and it blew out the OS to where I had to reinstall XP. It wouldn't work on my Win 98 system either until I "manually" (via control panel) reconfigured DMA for the ( ATAPI? ) CD ROM controller.

Also I was just copying a program/data CD with a more recent version of Roxio that came installed on a Dell XP Vostro 2000 low profile desktop bought in Nov 2007 and it killed two fresh CD-R's in a row (on two separate PC's). So I gave up and used the freeware program I downloaded from imgburn.com. Latter is perhaps less user friendly for novices but if commercial program kills CD's then what good is it? (Three strikes and for me it seems to be "out".)

I've used Nero a little and not had problems.

But since imgburn.com download is under 2MB I think I like small and clean.

P.S. In multimedia player and converter software it seems like freeware like VLC and SUPER are better than commercial stuff, too.

Fortunately I was able to create a DVD from FLV -> MPG file(s) from Youtube , with DVD menu , with my OEM Roxio Creator 9. Apparently Deepburner also has a program , DeepDVD , which also creates ("authors") DVD's, which AFAIK is not freeware?

So if I'm "lucky" Roxio Creator 9 is only screwing up my CD copying now :(

For lurkers:
The Deepburner web site says that the free version of it does not support creating/authoring DVD's.

For the time being at least , I make do with Roxio 9 (Dell OEM) version to author amateur DVD's (e.g. YouTube medleys, etc.).

Judy,

A friend turned me on to this one. Wonder if anyone here would care to give it a spin and tell me how they feel.
