Herewith 19 definitions for jomer. Vote for the two most likely candidates
no later than 10 PM, EDT, Sunday September 21.

1. a double-bluff play in whist.

2. a mistress.

3. the principal or head secretary or clerk.

4. a humorless bureaucrat.

5. _Baseball slang_ A home run made at the cost of serious injury.

6. a left-handed person.

It is obviously impossible for there really to be a bureaucrat with a sense
of humour, so 4 is a tautology or maybe a pleonasm and a large kangaroo is a
bit too obvious. However, those are they which attract my votes

#4 and #13 please

That's amazing. I can't recall when I've seen a more varied assortment of
defs. The only one I can eliminate from consideration is the one I wrote!

Wild guesses: #3, #16.

I don't think the real definition is in there. If it is, the word
can't possibly be English, because the "jo" sound is impossible to
pronounce in our language. I'll therefore go with the Basques and join
it with the Turks: 14 and 19.
