Here are 19 totally believable definitions for turabosis. However, only one
is correct. You get two chances to ferret out the correct definition (no
peeking at a dictionary!). Vote for your two favourites no later than 11 PM
EDT, Tuesday September 9.

1. a lung infection found in wild deer and elk.

2. a viral infection, invariably fatal, of the blowholes of sperm whales.

3. a form of dysentery peculiar to the Piedmont region of Europe. [From
the University of Turin, where it was first identified.]

4. an abnormal desire for strange foods.

5. [Ethics] the process of reaching normative conclusions via
meta-ethical reflection.

6. the art of representing objects in perspective, especially as applied
in the design and painting of theatrical scenery.

7. the property of miscible liquids to separate on cooling.

8. [Chem.] a process of removing certain solids from a liquid by passing
it through a permeable membrane charged with a low-voltage current.

9. a fanatical adherence to The Chicago Manual of Style, as prepared by
Kate L. Turabian.

10. a disease of sheep which causes the wool to turn yellowish-brown.

11. persistent swelling of the lower legs, usually the result of
congestive heart disease.

12. [Med.] prolapse of the inner ear.

13. the belief that one is covered in sand.

14. a non-fatal infestation of the chubid wasp, usu. found in beech and
ash exclusively, except in certain subtropical areas of the
continental U.S., where it colonizes more promiscuously.
Characterized by deep, swollen sapholes in the upper trunk.

15. a rare and often fatal injury to cows and other ruminant animals
caused when the methane in their stomachs explodes.

16. the state of being too busy and completing nothing.

17. slavery practiced by animals; especially ants.

18. being horned like a wild ox [OHG _tur_ is Lat. _bos urus_ the now
long extinct European ox]

19. the general form or a quantity indicative of the general form of a
statistical frequency curve near the mean of the distribution.

Gosh, so many diseases! I think I'll go with the chemistry "stuff":

<< 7. the property of miscible liquids to separate on cooling.

<< 8. [Chem.] a process of removing certain solids from a liquid
<< by
<< passing
<< it through a permeable membrane charged with a low-voltage
<< current.

Exploding cows? Gets my vote. That's 15. And 16 perfectly describes my
work week.

Oh, was I supposed to guess what the word meant? Bah. This round I'm
rewarding the authors that made me laugh.

When did you adopt British spelling?

Anyway: A fastastical lot of defs, these, several very tempting. I'll vote
for #8 and #10.

Well, I have some British ancestry. Probably in my right index finger, which
hit the "u" all on its own.

Dodi

One does not adopt Bristish spelling, rather, one realises one's errors and
repents of them <vbgdr>

I don't know about >19 totally believable definitions

I mean, #13 just isn't believable and I also doubt #19 and #5 but as I have
to chose between impossibles I guess I'll go with #5 and #13
