View Full Version : [Dixonary] New poll for coryphaeus

coryphaeus@yahoogroups.com

Enter your vote today! A new poll has been created for the
coryphaeus group:

Some players would prefer a longer deadline for submitting
definitions and/or voting than the current 24-36 hours
specified in Da Rules, in order to account for the added
delays in email delivery and daily digests. This would
allow more players to submit definitions and/or vote, but
also would reduce the number of games completed in a given
timeframe.

Would you prefer to keep the current 24 to 36 hour
timeframe, or extend the deadlines to 36 to 48 hours?

o Keep the existing 24 to 36 hours
o Extend the deadlines to 36 to 48 hours
o Extend the deadlines to over 48 hours

To vote, please visit the following web page:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/coryphaeus/surveys?id=1730832

Note: Please do not reply to this message. Poll votes are
not collected via email. To vote, you must go to the Yahoo! Groups
web site listed above.

Thanks!

The poll is a nice feature - I had not tried it before! You vote and
after you vote, it displays the results so far.

Interesting too that as I look at the 'results so far' everyon else who has voted is abc@ but my own email is given in full... Is
that a feature for everyone or does mine actually show in full to others?

I don't know about the Email addresses. Didn't notice whether mine was
in full or not and I don't recall whether you were listed when I voted.
I did notice that all but one of them had a real name, and that one was
a combination of numbers and letters and I don't know who it is.

In general, both in polls, member list, messages, etc. only your own
email address shows "in full" when you are logged in, and others are
truncated to name@e...

I would humbly suggest the consensus is actually for a deadline to be flexible and to be from 30 to 40 hours (that is -- the upper end of the current deadline with a few hours added to give a reasonable range).

If it was iel7j001 _AT_ sneakemail.com, that's me. It's a throwaway
address that I created several years ago specially to join another
Yahoo group.

It was you. The sneakemail would not have shown up, of course.

There are lots of options for the way a given poll works, and I was
originally hoping that we could use the poll feature to collect votes
for the game, but I reluctantly had to conclude it couldn't be made to
work.

The problems were: maximum of 19 defs (because DQ would take the 20th);
no way of enforcing the maximum of two votes; no way of voting by email.

But of course there's no reason in principle not to have a web
application that displays the defs, counts the votes and announces the
winner. It would certainly cut down on the admin!

PLEASE don't ever enforce *public* DQ's I'm still
adamantly opposed to them.
