I enjoyed a wonderful fireworks show last night, and we've got a huge
barbeque planned for late this afternoon. In between, I've caught up on the
nine definitions submitted so far from John Barrs, Wayne Scott, Guerri
Stevens, Judy Madnick, Dave Cunningham, Tim Lodge, Toni Savage, Chuck Emery,
and Mike Shefler. If your name isn't in that list, I don't yet have your
def. You have just under 22 more hours to submit!

I will leap to the conclusion that only the Iowa part needs expostion ...

Iowa is a farming state -- Nebraska or Kansas would have been almost as good, but http://www.statequarters.com/News/2002/090902_IA_big.jpg shows the options for the Iowa state quarter (the US is going through all the states 3-4 per year, as reverses for our quarter), and thus reflects their self-image.
