Gee, could it be a PLANT?

Unless, of course, it's a horse disease.

I think I'm going with the former--of which there are many choices. I'll
choose #1 for its strangeness and #9 for its reasonable air.

16, with the hope I have a new word I can use in casual conversation.

And 17 because I got there without another good choice.

- I say I say I say... my wife got severely chewed by a lion at the
Colosseum.

- Gladiator?

- No, I was quite fond of her, especially in a 15 that enhanced her
well-formed 16.

Now I think I had better make myself absent for a while. I'll be away
all next week with minimal connectedness.

I'll go with 1 because it's strange and 16 because it isn't.

John -

A rich and varied selection. I'll try -

5. a garden perennial having low growth; broad, heart-shaped leaves; and
small, obscure blue flower spathes. It is cultivated generally as a
ground cover in shade.

and

15. leather skirt worn by Roman gladiators

Thanks,

Going on the assumption that the correct definition has to be among the most
unlikely-sounding: 1 and 16.
