The rules specify between 24 and 36 hours.

I don't know exactly what time Toni posted the list of defs, or how long it
took to get from where/when she posted it, to the listserv, and then to me,
but it landed in my e-mailbox on Tuesday at 7:15 a.m. EDT.

The deadline she gave: today, Wednesday, 8 p.m. EDT.

The way I figure it, that's almost 37 hours.

Actually, I think Nancy was referring to the definition submitting time
period.

However, it was still near the maximum length deadline, posted Sunday at
8:24pm with a deadline Tuesday morning at 6am (times eastern), a total
of 33 hours, 36 minutes. And as you pointed out, the definition posting
(4:14am eastern) and voting deadline (5pm eastern next day) window was
36 hours and 46 minutes. This round had some of the longest permissible
deadlines according to the rules.

No wonder I kept checking my email box and seeing no messages. :)

How do you find out when the new word was actually posted? What I have
in my Emailed copy says Sunday (7/10) at 11:24 p.m. Looking at the
headers reveals a time of Sunday, 7/10 at 20:24 PDT (note the PDT). That
means 23:24 EDT or 11:24 p.m. for those of us on the east coast. Still
more than 24 hours for the deadline, though. Unfortunately I didn't look
at my mail until after 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

The information is buried in the internet headers.

The "Sent" date shown in your emailed copy is the timestamp from Toni's
computer, which may or may not be a correct time. It's simply a
representation of the header "Date: Sun, 10 Jul 2005 20:24:33 -0700 (PDT)"

As far as when it was "actually posted", the further "Received:" headers
(reading from the bottom up) give indication when it passed between
various servers. It looks like it finally left Yahoo! and went to my
gmail account at Sun, 10 Jul 2005 20:26:35 -0700 (PDT). A reasonably
short (2 minute) processing time. With a 3am PDT (on Tuesday) deadline,
that's over 36 1/2 hours. Your results may vary.

Perhaps I am mathematically challenged or too tired or ...

My results do vary. 20+ PDT on Sunday to 3+ on Tuesday: I get 31 hours.
4 hours on Sunday, 24 hours Monday, 3 hours Tuesday.
