View Full Version : [Dixonary] OT: Defs Message was Spam

I read my Email this morning and wondered why people were voting without
the definitions having been posted. Then I realized that the defs *must*
have been posted, but not received by me, and I checked my tapcis.com
Email directly.

The announcement was marked as spam! I wonder why? My notes say that the
host for tapcis.com Email was switched to Google in mid March. I cannot
remember any other missing Dixonary messages, so this was pretty odd.

The amount of spam was amazing, too. Why should we have to put up with
this? How many hours are wasted by having to deal with it? I even had a
message from William Shoemaker - is Willie Shoemaker still alive????? (I
didn't read the message). There was also a message with a subject saying
my bank account was blocked, which I ignored.

They reached my mailbox, again, only in binary form--although the votes are
all coming through in plaintext. < sigh >

Perhaps this has something to do with the change to Google, since Google
doesn't send its users copies of their own emails when those messages are
sent to a group such as Dixonary?????

I get copies back of my own messages to the group, just as I do with any of
the listservs.

That may be because you are not using gmail itself. Even in gmail (ie plain email, not a listserver) my own messages do not appear
in my inbox until they become part of a thread - when I receive a reply (they are in "sent" items so its merely a display thing on
gmail's part).

In the listserv environment my own messages are not sent back to me. I have resolved this by either not using my gmail account when
posting to the listserver (forgetfulness error on my part <grin>) or setting my software to copy both ingoing and outgoing messages
to the listserver to a specific mail folder so that I have complete threads back here

No, Willie is not alive (died in 2003). Maybe spam is actually
communications from the afterlife and we just can't interpret it.

This wasn't a case of my own messages not being reflected back to me,
and in any event such messages wouldn't appear at all. This was a
message from Tony, and it was delivered, but marked as spam. Odd,
because other messages from him regarding this round were fine. Maybe it
was the definition that mentioned the belly dancer?????

Aha, that must be it. Anything with an afterlife address is treated as
spam! I should have noted the subject on that one. Most of them appeared
to be for a performance-enhancing drug which I will not mention,
otherwise this message might become spam. I can't believe there could be
so many of those messages.
