My deepest apologies for being so late in posting these 18
definitions for SARKIT! My computer has been absolutely
misbehaving this morning, not doing what it should, and doing
what it shouldn't! Then once I finally got into DOS, Froma's
invaluable AutoDealer didn't want to play right either.

But here, at long last, is the list. Please vote for the two of
your choice by public response to this message. Given the delay,
I'm setting the deadline for voting a little later than I'd
originally intended--to 8:00 Eastern time Sunday morning, May 10.
Other zones, other times--I don't have enough brain left to figure
them out!

Enjoy!

1. A tenor voice with a striking dramatic or brilliant quality that is
well suited for heroic roles, such as those in Wagnerian opera.

2. A unit of electromagnetic flux density used in radio astronomy, equal
to 10^-26 watts per square metre per hertz.

3. _Taraxacum ovalifolium_ a plant related to dandelion with blood-red
latex [Gk sarx = flesh, blood]

4. A court official responsible for recording decisions, dispositions,
etc. [Turk., prob. orig. Arm.]

5. A small wren found primarily on the island of Sark in the English
Channel.

6. A coarsely woven cotton shawl worn by women in Northern
Afghanistan.

7. An embroidered pillow or cushion for use on a pew or
kneeler.

8. A small sailing vessel used in Sri Lanka and southern India.

9. Dried leaf used in ancient times to make perfumed ointments.

10. A rough-textured wallpaper with high fiber content.

11. A gigantic and monstrous demon in Arabic mythology.

12. A small undershirt or slip [dim. of Scots sark]

13. A strainer or filter used with a samovar.

14. Something to be mechanically reproduced.

15. Provided with a shirt. (_Scot._)

16. A short-bladed dagger of India.

17. A pocket-sized notebook.

18. [Obs.] Low; short.

Scott, tearing out what hair he has left...

As is my tradition, I'll take the Scots even tho I totally doubt that these
are correct
12 and 15, please.

Good luck with the deal even without Froma's masterpiece to help.

I find 8 and 9 more believable than the rest, including my own.

Scott -

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. You have nevertheless put
together an extensive and varied list. How about -

6. A coarsely woven cotton shawl worn by women in Northern Afghanistan.

and

16. A short-bladed dagger of India.

Thanks,

Chuck
