Here are 17 definitions of FOY, only one of which appears in my
dictionary.

Please cast your two votes for those you believe to be most
deserving, by public reply to this message.

The deadling for voting is 10:00 a.m. Eastern time, Sunday
morning, May 4. Other zones, other times. (I'm stretching the
deadline just a bit because Sunday mornings are rather busy for
me.)

3. A jester.

4. [obs.] Casual.

5. _Scot._ A dandy.

6. Acronym: For Our Use.

7. Very fat; grossly obese.

8. Faith or belief [from Middle French].

9. A small decorative three-legged table.

10. Collective name for a group of badgers.

11. Crazy (Eng. slang), derived from French "fou".

12. A kind of water-wheel used in the Low Countries.

13. [Irish] Small, especially of a person.

14. _Ir. obs._ To visit [OIr _foainn_ 'spend the night'].

15. A dog in the process of being trained to the hunt, esp.
fox-hunting.

16. The base block at the intersection of the baseboard and the
vertical trim around an opening.

17. (_Scots_) A farewell feast, drink, or gift, as at a wedding.

'one for the road' but 'fee'.
