View Full Version : [Dixonary] Links in Pages that point to Files don't seem to work

Someone please try this.

Go to Pages, then select Game Rules and Advice, then click on any of
the document links. None of them work for me. They all say "The page
you navigated to does not exist." I've re-edited the links and I've
tried it in IE as well as Firefox. Nothing seems to fix the problem.

Is this just me?

I tried it, and also got the "does not exist" message. Along the side of
the screen at the point where one clicks on the document is a list of
recent stuff, and clicking on the dealer points there does work.

Links don't work as follows (I'm using firefox with the adobe plugin)

1. "PDF open" or "open as HTML" fails with a "Error trying to convert the PDF file. Probably the PDF file is protected against the
copy of its content"

2. "PDF download" apparently works but the file then fails to open in ADOBE with the suggestion that the file was probably sent as
an email and not properly decoded

3. "click" fails with either as 1 if file is a pdf - or "page does not exist" if it wasn't a pdf

4. Attempt to "edit" the page fails similarly

BUT - it was all OK yesterday when I read the 'DP' paper - however, I didn't go in via "pages"; I just went in via "files"

- in fact all the files still are accessible from "files"

I am not skilled enough to know quite what to do about that - other pages seem OK (Used Word Lists) although History and Statistics
takes me to Yahoo group and I have to log in there to see the files

The link in "pages" to "Real" Rules is
http://groups.google.co.uk/group/Dixonary/web/The%20%27Real%27%20Rules%20of%20Dixonary%208%C2%BD x11.pdf

The link in the rh side bar is
http://dixonary.googlegroups.com/web/The%20%27Real%27%20Rules%20of%20Dixonary%20A4.pdf? gda=fJfFV1oAAAB1cpq42lAe0Ud9_2efVBS7EBTiId_wr

Although it claims I did, in fact I didn't edit the page in the sense that I changed anything, I went to Edit, tried to open the
drop-link (right mouse click) and got the same errors as ordinary access to that page... Then exited

I've checked out the help group. This appears to be a known problem.
Since January! Apparently removing spaces and non-ASCII characters
from the filenames helps. I haven't bothered to try that. It would be
quicker and easier to put links back to Yahoo, which I might do
tomorrow.

Links back to Yahoo means .....we still have to be ,members, I was lucky to remember my yahoo login password

Thing is, access by "Files" rather than "Pages" works and also the right-hand click list works... I would suggest that you just add
a not to top of page - "Use Files"

Remember that there's essentially unlimited upload space on tapcis.com as well...
