This is too good not to pass on. During my computer travails, I took the
bad machine to the Geek Squad at Best Buy in Greenville, SC. They were
unable (or didn't try) to recover the drive, so replaced it with
another, and I bought Windows XP to install. XP refused to recognize
that there was a drive in the machine.

So not wanting to waste any more time, I took the computer back, they
refunded the cost of the new drive and XP, and I bought a new machine.

Today I decided to fool around a little with the old one, and see if I
could retrieve, for instance, my Tbird address book and possibly figure
out what driver applied to the hard disk so I could recover that.

To make a long story short, I discovered quite by chance that instead of
taking out the new hard drive that I was returning to Best Buy and
putting back in my old, bad one, they took out the new one and put it
right back in!!!!!

I was tempted to say nothing, keep the drive, and look around for
drivers for it, but I did the right thing and called the Geek Squad.
Initially the the man I spoke with said could I bring the machine in
today so they could give me back my drive and take theirs. I said it was
a 60 mile round trip and I was not inclined to make it, why didn't he
send someone here? He said he couldn't do that, and if I couldn't get in
there before Monday, my drive would be gone.

I said, oh no, I have your property and you have mine. You have no right
to get rid of my property, you have to hold onto it until I can get in
there. If you can't make that decision let me talk to a manager. He said
he'd call me back.

He did, and the result is that they'll hold onto my drive until I can
get there and collect it.

I am still laughing. I cannot believe they did this!
