I was just about to ask that, Mike. He did indeed miss the last three
rounds, and the two rounds before that, he voted but didn't submit a def.

I sent him an "Are you okay?" note a little over a week ago, but there's
been no reply.

Oh, dear. I too missed him but didn't realize how long it's been. Could
he be off visiting children somewhere? Does anyone have Email addresses
for any of said children?

The last message I saw from him was Jan. 9, which is almost 2 weeks ago.

At one point his son was playing... does anyone have that email?

Do you know how long ago the son was playing? I may still have some old
messages from the CompuServe TAPCIS forum.

I think Wayne also has a daughter.

I've just phoned Wayne's house (12:15 my time, 9:15 a.m. his time). I got
his answering machine and left a message.

I don't have e-mail or phone for any of his offspring (I believe there are
four altogether--and yes, Guerri, at least one is a daughter, named Lee I
think; she played Dixonary a few times, a long while back, but always via
Wayne, so that's not a source of e-mail address for her).

I haven't any clue as to how to reach his daughter or any of his sons. Does
anyone?

Judy Russell, maybe????

UPDATE: Good news!

Just got a call-back from Wayne.

HE IS OKAY.

His computer is NOT okay. His old laptop died. He got a new laptop. It came
bearing Vista, which immediately proceeded to foul everything up (as I hear
it is wont to do).

After some phoning around, he has located someone who promises to come and
take Vista away and install XP.

He will then be back online. That will--hopefully--happen within a day or
two.

Meanwhile and otherwise, he's fine.

Dodi,

Thanks for the excellent news!

Vista is the main reason that *I* haven't upgraded my laptop in a year, nor
do I plan to until something better comes along.

Whew!

Too bad about Vista. I tend to avoid "new" operating systems until they
are close to being obsolete!

You and me both. I am still running windows 98 on 2 of my pcs because of
legacy software that won't run under newer versions.

Nope. Do me a favor and email me Wayne's phone number and I'll touch base with him to make sure we do have a way to reach out when he scares us like this!!!

Well, some of my legacy software (I'm talking DOS, here) doesn't run, or
run properly, under Windows XP. I still have not figured out why nor
have I convinced myself to switch to something else.

YAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!

As bad as it is to be a victim of Vista (and they are legion!) there are a lot worse things!

I'm sticking with XP. It runs everything I need, goes into standby
when idle, and it lets me go weeks to months without a "blue-screen-of-
death." The oldest legacy program I have is an editor that was written
in 1984. It runs fine under windows. I use it daily.

I guess we're a bunch of neo-luddies around here. <insert smiley face>

I've found the DOSBox software fixes that for me, both on XP and Vista.

Best wishes,

LOL!! I can't speak for anyone else, but for my own part, I have to confess to an element of that...

Of course, it occurs to me that the more positive way to state that is, "Better the devil you know..."
