Here are 17 definitions of TERVEE, 16 of which I'd be glad to
vote for, if I didn't know better.

Please cast two votes for your own favorites, by the deadline of
0800, 9:00 a.m., Eastern time, on Monday morning, November 19.

1. _var_ Dervish q.v.

2. To struggle; writhe.

3. An old name for marzipan.

4. A kind of bleached burlap.

5. The back of a television set.

6. A rotating minaret on a mosque.

7. A strong snuff made from a dark, coarse tobacco.

8. A hollow, flexible tube used in gooseneck lamps.

9. Brazilian ballroom dance resembling the two-step.

10. A large long-billed wading bird, Limosa lapponica.

11. The bag containing the gas in a balloon or airship.

12. In a loom, that portion of the frame that is above the
fabric layer.

buyer as a seal of the purchase and a guarantee of it. The
land itself only passed to the new owner at Michaelmas (Sept
29th) after the current year's harvests were gathered in.

REALLY? I don't believe a single one!

But I'll vote for #4 and #13, although I'm sure it's neither.

I vote for the popular 7 and the almost-as-popular 14. I don't believe
the Barrs def (17) though clearly lots of other people do.
