I just updated to 8.1.0.413 today, but it apparently does NOT patch this new vuln.
So before I patched to 413 today, I was already 2 steps behind :(

I really don't know if the frequency of security holes is higher in IM programs than in Java, Flash, Adobe Reader, media players, etc.
I think the opportunity for using social engineering to attack individuals is greater in IM programs since the bad guys can establish a rapport in text chat and then try doing multimedia attacks or sending infected files.
I like Yahoo Messenger since you can call out to regular phones for 1 cent/min and pc to pc calling is free, like various other IM programs, or like Skype, etc. I don't use Skype since it won't run on Win 98.
For long distance free calls, I've found that the Yahoo Messenger conference mode has better sound quality than regular call mode.
Under Compuserve we used to have guest speakers (text chatters) in various forums, either by HMI or Java/ActiveX chat programs. That was a good feature. Now guest speakers can give talks and answer questions by audio and video, even better, with appropriate chat software.

8.1.0.416 is available. Does have some security fix or other in it. Just DL'd, didn't bother to check details.
I always try to remember to do CUSTOM install to avoid install "extras".

8.1.0.419 is now available.
My install had some kind of glitch in it, but I don't know yet whether any harm was done ?
Supposed to contain some security fix, but I don't know what.
