The Retrospect Express software that came with my Maxtor external hard drive is balking and I am looking for something else that might be good ... I want to do full system and incremental backups and would love to automate 'em. And of course I want cheap, on a W2K Pro system.

Anybody got a recommendation?

There are a number of happy users of Acronis True Image (http://www.acronis.com/download/) in the PCIS Windows forum.

Retrospect also started giving me trouble, and I too switched to Acronis. So far I'm very happy with it!

Acronis reads files from within an image, doing dual duty as an image backup program and file backup utility. If the compressed container goes bad, you're hosed.

You might consider supplementing Acronis with file backup of your important data with either

o Karen's Replicator
or

o Cobian Backup 8

(both free).
