Nancy said, in a message that arrived in my mailbox at 11 p.m. on Sunday:

>> I was away for the weekend and got NO messages from you all on my
>> laptop.

--and therefore didn't know until Sunday night that she was the next
dealer.

Nancy, do you use two different computers with two different addresses? If
so, are both registered with Google?

If Nancy has only one address, even if she gets a daily digest or
something, isn't that every 24 hours? Bill's report of results arrived in
my mailbox at 11 a.m. Friday, Mike's rolling scores at about 2:30 p.m.
Saturday. Why would Nancy not receive them until Sunday night?

Just curious about how all this works.

Dodi, my problem is that I don't always get all my email on my laptop,
which is the only computer I had this weekend.

I suggested that we should get into the habit of always sending
individual messages to new dealers because you never know when my
computer yips might happen to someone else.

At any rate, everyone should always remember to send such
notifications to ME to prevent delay of game.

Nancy, it's not in the rules, but there has for a while been a comment to
this effect in 'The "Real" Rules': It is courteous for the dealer to notify
Da Winnah of the result privately by email: it is especially helpful to
players who normally get game messages by visiting a website rather than by
email.

So you're saying, Nancy, that it's a problem with your computer itself? If
it sometimes won't pick up e-mail--and apparently that was true over the
weekend--why would it have helped if Bill had sent one to you directly?

Well, frankly, I'm in the opposite way...

ALL my mail comes to the same account, and if I'm
rushed and did not really expect to win, then a
message with "YOU ARE THE NEXT DEALER" in the title
will get my attention really a lot faster than a dozen
messages all with the title "Round 1543 results"
(Which could be leftover from some previous round, for
all I know).

Some weeks, Dixonary has my full attention and I read
messages twice a day, other weeks, I'm really busy,
and I catch up when I can. I would imagine that most
of us are like that?

What I am not getting are my messages from listservs, like this, on my
laptop. Completely clueless as to why. Computers and I are not on a
first-name basis.

So a plea: let's send private notification to new dealers, okay?

I have no problem with the idea of sending private notifications to new
dealers. But the question is where? Do we send them to all known Email
addresses for the person? I have seen 4 Email addresses for you, for
instance: 2 Gmail, 1 CompuServe, and 1 Hotmail. I don't have them all in
my address book, though, and in fact my address book provides for only 2.

Or do we log into the Dixonary Google group and send via whatever method
it provides? I haven't tried this, and am just assuming there will be
only one Email address.

That's weird! Mine seem to arrive like any other e-mail.

Don't see why not. Needn't even be a separate message; the dealer can just
simultaneously send a copy of the round's report directly to the new
dealer, no? I don't think we need a new "rule" for this.

I should have sent you and e-mail, but I didn't. It was an oversight
on my part, and I do apologize to you and the group.

We don't need a new "rule" -- just the ability to remember to do this!!

It's okay, Bill, but I could have started the round earlier had I
known...
