Vote for TWO definitions, as a public forum message (in
reply to this one), before the deadline, which is 11 am BST
on Monday 7 May (which happens to be a public holiday here
in England). That will be 1000 UTC, 6 am EDT, 3 am PDT,
etc..

New players are welcome, even if you didn't enter a
definition this round. Don't look in a dictionary. Full
rules, if you're curious, are in the file "The Rules of
Dixonary.txt" in the library of the Coryphaeus Yahoo group.

1: a flensing needle.

2: a between meal snack.

3: a Polish hand puppet.

4: an Indian sedan chair.

5: a tool for turning soil.

Just to confuse matters still further:

This list of defs arrived in my mailbox TWICE--once by e-mail directly from
Tim (thank you, Tim!) and a second time via googlegroups. The first was not
surprising.

My votes: #9 and #15.

Dodi,

I'm firmly convinced that your troubles are due to Compuserve using an
overaggressive spam filter. One hopes these issues will settle out in time.
In the meantime, I hope dealers can cc: you on important postings.

Is anyone else other than Dodi experiencing delivery issues?

Just for the record, if anyone's still trying to figure stuff out:

I've seen the defs list, my own votes, and votes from Toni, Judy, Guerri,
and Dan (as well as comments on the problem from various folks). All from
googlegroups.

Dan, I can't imagine CIS screening out any part of these Dixonary
communications but happily putting through some of the language that comes
along in spam headers. And why did they just start fooling with this stuff
after the yahoo-to-google move? Sheer coincidence?

Looks like you didn't see Bill Hirst's. Possibly Roberta's, but they may
have crossed yours in cyberspace.

DS> Dan, I can't imagine CIS screening out any part of these Dixonary

Spammers are getting more inventive all the time. I'm not surprised.

Baysean filters treat every group of characters in a message as a "word".
These include IP addresses in the headers.

Each message gets a "score" calculated for it, based on the number of "spam"
related words (or IP addresses) compared to the number of "safe" ones. Lots
of spammers get their "spam" message through by adding a bunch of "harmless"
text, usually at the bottom of the message. Or by misspelling the words or
using special characters, etc.

The bottom line: since you're receiving *some* messages, we can't fault
anything on the delivery path. And since you're the only one playing at
CompuServe.com, it is likely something along that path.

Certain types of messages (those posted directly at Google Groups, for
example) seem to be more likely to be blocked, although they still all seem
content dependent.

The routing servers/IP addresses are different from Google than they are
from yahoo. Possibly Google has previously been used more by spammers than
Yahoo! Has, and thus has a higher ratio of "bad" IP address "words".

I know nothing of compuserve's ability to whitelist sites or email
addresses... if they don't have that ability that's horrible of them.

I had said, "I've seen the defs list, my own votes, and votes from Toni,
Judy, Guerri, and Dan."

Dan says,

>> Looks like you didn't see Bill Hirst's. Possibly Roberta's...

I have NOW, in addition to the above, seen votes from Roberta, Johnny, and
Mike.

I have NOT seen Bill's. You'll recall that this all began with Bill's
messages not getting through to me. There have been occasional messages
from others--including Johnny once, you once, Tim B twice, maybe more--that
haven't reached me, but the Bill situation seems to be consistent. Any idea
what THAT might mean?

>> And since you're the only one playing at CompuServe.com...

Tony still has a CIS classic account. So does Nancy, although I haven't
been noticing how often she sends her messages from it.

You have gotten some of Bill's messages, although I think you said they
were odd.

Tony may still have a CompuServe account, but he has said that he is not
using it to play the game.

You know, that reminds me that I still have a CS account too, but I've
stopped even bothering to look at mail from it.
