View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 1806: replacement word: REFLET

To avoid still more confusion, I'm afraid it's necessary to start again with a
new word. I've had two potential DQs, and though I'm not sure whether the
connection between the invisible rabbit Harvey and the true meaning of POOKA
(hobgoblin) is close enough, there does seem to be a connection.

So the new word for this round is

************
* *
* REFLET *
* *
************

As usual, no indication of capitalisation or otherwise is implied.

New players are welcome. Don't look in a dictionary. If you know the word, let
me know soon, by email (if too many people know it, we'll pick another word).

Think up a creative, intriguing, funny or genuine looking definition that will
entice your fellow players to vote for it. Send it BY EMAIL (not as a public
forum message) to me at dixonary (AT) siam (DOT) co.uk, before the deadline, which is now
10 pm BST on Saturday 5 May; that's 9 pm GMT/UTC, 5 pm EDT and 2 pm PDT.

Full rules, if you're curious, are in the file "The Rules of Dixonary.txt" in
the library of the Coryphaeus Yahoo group.

> Okay, so a move back won't be instantaneous. We need to finish the
> current round here.
>
Bearing in mind the message from Dan containing the above, and sent during the
previous round, when I posted the first new word message I thought I'd play safe
and copy it to the Yahoo list as well as posting it to the Google list; please
accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused.

I'm assuming we are still on Google, though it's not clear who is deciding this
or how we will all know.

Best wishes,

Tim B

Now that you mention it, pooka does sound familar. Not that I would have
remembered it.

Anyway, here's my def for reflet:

a small hand mirror.

Now that you mention, I do recall the word 'pooka' being used in connection
with Harvey. Whether I would have made that connection on seeing the defs
is uncertain but the change is probably well-advised.

REFLET:

What Harvey dint have?

Good one -- I might have voted for it. I thought I had a crown handy, but I must have left it in Tapcis. <G>

You will be lucky if Dodi doesn't see this and give you a crown!

Guerri said of Mike's Dixon,

Since Dodi DIDN'T see see it (although, as reported earlier, she'd seen
Mike's rolling scores for the last round), no crown this time. ;-)

interesting... I remember looking up "pooka" in a
dictionary when I was a kid, (lexiophile even then!)
and not finding it, and someone told me it was made up
for the movie... hmmm.....

I was interested in the homophone, puka. That's Hawaiian for a hole.

went.

You need a new set of flets in that motor. It'll cost you close to
$500 at Auto Zone.

I thought a reflet was a small or young ref. Like owlet or chicklet or
omelet or minuet.
