So far, 7 defintions have been received, from the following players:
Cunningham, JohnnyB, Lodge, M.D., Savage, Stevens and Widdis.
I haven't quite figured out if/how Coryphaeus is sending
acknowlegements. Maybe I'll do it manually.
The word, in case you missed the initial posting, is BROG. You still
have
some time to submit your fake definitions for this word, (which you
should
of course send me by _email_). The deadline for definitions is
Saturday, April 28, 2007 8:00 AM EDT.

Hi Bill,
I submitted my definition about an hour before you posted the progress
report. About the same time as I posted my nad. Did you receive it?
Best, Hugo

That "M.D." must be Curm's last name. I think I should go fix that.

So far, 12 defintions have been received, from the following players:
Barrs, Bourne, Carson, Cunningham, Kornelis, Lodge, Madnick, Savage,
Scott (M.D.),
Sheffler, Stevens and Widdis.
If you sent me a def, and you're not on the list, It might be stuck in
my spam filter. I've had about half a dozen go there.

Now I'm REALLY confused.
#1, Hugo posted a copy of Bill's progress report. THAT never reached me
originally, EITHER (same as his posting of the word). I am evidently
getting everything from the GoogleGroups site EXCEPT things posted by Bill.
Anybody have any idea why this is happening?
#2, Bill's original text says he sent his update on the 27th (that's today)
at 1:40 p.m. Like Bill, I'm in the Eastern time zone of the US. NOW, as I
write this, the time is 11:10 a.m. EDT.

I think that, by default, Google Groups display the time in GMT. If
you're prepared to visit the website at http://groups.google.com/group/Dixonary
, you can change this by clicking on 'My Account', followed by
Personal Information Edit. To get all the time zones to show in the
dropdown list you need to tick the box "Show all Timezones" (what a
surprise!).
If you can't visit the website, it might be possible for DAN to change
it for you - I don't know.

It appears that the problem is to do with the content of the message
(because the original and any copies are not arriving). My guess is that a
CIS spam filter has decided that there is something about the format of the
announcement that makes it suspect, and I reckon that the prime candidate is
a line that I can't quote to you, because if I'm right, this message will
get nobbled also. To check if my guess is good, I will send this message
twice, once with and once without.
I can only recommend that you find out how to whitelist the sender
Dixonary (AT) googlegroups (DOT) com. The problem with CIS's silent approach to spam
filtering is that you never know what you're missing.

Tim, that time information is interesting. Dodi's message said she was
writing it at 11:10 a.m. The time stamp shown on the copy I received
through the group vial Email said 5:00 p.m. I didn't think anything of
it, assuming her message may have been delayed in its travels and be
stamped with the time actually posted in the group. Now I am planning to
visit the group myself and check my settings!

Replying to myself on the time zone thing.
This is why I never get anything done ...
I went into the Google group intending to check on and possibly change
my own time settings based on Tim's message. I decided to leave things
alone for the time being. My Country setting is U.S. and it appears that
the times displayed to me within the group are based on my own time
zone, at least for messages that I have posted, and my Email software
matches the group.
In the My Account section I could not tell what the default was and
didn't take time to use Help.
While within the group, I decided to view the Brog Progress thread. That
is interesting. Messages start with Bill's progress report of 7
definitions, with date/time 4/27 7:40 a.m.
Then these:
Hugo 4/27 7:50 a.m.
Bill re M.D. as Wayne's name, 4/27 7:55 a.m.
Wayne 4/27 1:31 p.m.
Bill 12-def progress, 4/27 4:58 p.m.
Dodi, 4/27 5:00 p.m. saying she's writing at 11:10 a.m.
Tim, 4/28 4:23 a.m.
*Paul, 4/28 4:46 a.m.
*Paul, 4/28 4:49 a.m.
*Me, 4/28 6:41 a.m.
* First interesting item: within the group Paul's messages are preceded
by "discussion subject changed to "Messages not arriving at CIS (1)" and
the second with (2). My message is preceded by "discussion subject
changed to Brog progress". All are shown in the same discussion, though,
and are threaded together under Dodi's message by my Email software.
Dodi's begins a new thread within my Email because CompuServe and/or
TAPCIS evidently doesn't preserve threading information expected by my
software, but hers is properly located within the discussion in the
group itself.
* Second interesting item: I received Paul's second message, which
contains the words that he thought CompuServe might be using to filter
out Bill's message as spam. But I did not receive Paul's *first*
message, the one without the presumably "spam" words!

And I, Paul's presumed victim of some CIS censor, received them both!
Go figure.
