View Full Version : [Dixonary] Dealer Points for Missing Def Emails?

What's the current concensus regarding dealer points for players whose
def email fail to reach the dealer? Def emails from three people
failed to reach me in the current round. It's possible that they may
have been caught in my spam filter, but there's no way of confirming
that, as they didn't appear in the digest of suspect emails that is
sent to me each morning. Also, 15 def messages _did_ arrive safely.

My inclination is to blame it on the vagaries of the Internet, and
say "tough luck" to the players involved. What does anyone else think?

I think in general it's a matter of being able to "prove" one submitted
one's def within deadline. When it's a single player whose def has gone to
the Great Bit Bucket in the Sky it's more difficult to conclude they did
everything correct, and one can conclude "tough luck."

When it's lots of people, like this round, then it's reasonable to believe
that the several regular players who claim they submitted a def all did so,
and the dealah's choice of ISP/email program/spam filter is the likely
culprit. In this case, dealer points seem fair.

Bottom line is that it's the dealer's decision. If I were dealing this
round, I'd hand out dealer points. But I'm not (thankfully).

If we go with "tough luck" then two dealer points should be subtracted
for me for the previous round when my definition failed to arrive. Which
is OK with me and is probably the right thing to do.

I simply hand out two points to anyone aggrieved --even though some thought I lost defs simply because I do not use a special program <g>.

Dave (who notes that this is not a system used by all dealers in the past)
