FWIW, the online OED gives the spelling forms as mediaeval, medieval.
I too learnt something in the secondary meanings by looking it up:
1b. medieval guipure = MACRAMÉ n. Obs. rare
3b. [U.S.] to get medieval: to use violence or extreme measures
on, to become aggressive. [The first citation for that one is "1994
