Nancy, I get everything by e-mail (which I'm convinced is the truly
reliable way to play this game), and this is the first and only time it's
happened to me. I can't recall another time when something failed to arrive
(or APPARENTLY failed to arrive) in my mailbox.

I suspect that in this instance, the fault was MINE--hat I somehow
inadvertently deleted the word announcement (I became aware that there had
been one when I saw Dan's spoof def, which was happily early on).

Nancy> Can anyone explain what's happening??

Yes. Yahoogroups is notoriously unreliable, with many delayed and dropped
messages. In other groups I subscribe to, I've received messages, including
the daily digest, up to 3 days after they were originally sent.

Dodi's statement of email "reliability" is only as good as the email
delivery platform, which in this case is questionable.

So far, I think we've all accepted the occasional, if inevitable, glitches
as the cost of doing business with yahoogroups, which otherwise offers
several benefits. Until the performance drops to the truly unacceptable
level, I am guessing inertia will keep us here.

As a side note, I strongly recommend you switch from "digest" to "individual
emails" from the group. The digest only publishes once per day, and you
could end up significantly behind deadline if the timing of a deal isn't
just right.

That's how I "play" Dixonary also. Email is clearly not always reliable, whether it's a Yahoo! Groups issue or an individual server problem. <sigh>
