I suppose I'd better come clean and own up that I omitted the real
definition from the list, which is

planxty: anything living that is not an animaxly.

Seriously, though, I thought this word and its definition so unlikely
that I wondered if it weren't a copyright trap ("plant", geddit?). But
it's in the OED2, so it's ok.

Unlikely it might be, but not unlikely enough. To my chagrin, three
players thought the true definition likely enough to vote for: 4, "an
Irish dance tune composed in honor of a patron" (Chambers 9 ed).
Despite what I thought was stiff competition.

The winner of round 1765 is Scott Crom, whose definition "a contagious
disease of the horse, characterized by fever and by pustular eruptions
or pox, esp. on the pastern and fetlocks" earned a natural 7.

Judy Madnick takes coveted second place with 5 points. And there were
2 players in runner-up position with 4 points: Toni Savage and Guerri
Stevens.

<< Judy Madnick takes coveted second place with 5 points.

Gotta' love that second place! I was getting a little nervous because I wasn't keeping track . . .
