TAPCIS - can "Reply to" address be changed to a non compuserve address.

I have a friend with a vanity domain name that is set up with a mail forwarding server to point to his NNN.NNN@compuserve.com address. So mailing to him at user@domain.com forwards to his compuserve account.

He would also like to have his user@domain.com address show up as the reply address in his TAPCIS emails - is this possible?

I do not believe it is possible to add a "reply to" in the TAPCIS program. TAPCIS only works with the old COMPUSERVE email protocols, NOT with the Internet POP3 (receive) and SMTP (send) email protocols. There is no provision in the old COMPUSERVE protocols for extra headers in email, such as "reply to". Therefore, even if somebody changed the TAPCIS program to add such an extra email header somewhere, it would get dropped by the Classic COMPUSERVE servers or possibly even be rejected by the Classic COMPUSERVE servers.

If this person is interested in eventually transitioning completely to a non-Classic-Compuserve email address (user@domain.com) it might be a good idea to get a Classic Compuserve POP email password (different from Compuserve login password) and a personalized Classic Compuserve POP email address such as johndoe@compuserve.com AND start using a good free regular Internet email program, such as Thunderbird, Mozilla, Netscape, Pegasus, etc. That way the person could keep his Classic Compuserve email address while switching to the pay-as-you-go Classic plan (hopefully still available at $2.95/mo.) from the $9.95 or $24.95 /mo. plans. That would also mean giving up using TAPCIS to send and receive mail, but doing so might also be a good idea, because it is uncertain how much longer Classic Compuserve will continue to be supported.
