Tony, it could actually stand, as well, for "archaic" or "archaeology."

But precisely because of this confusion, MOST--though not all--of the major
dictionaries spell out the words or at least include enough to make it
clear (archaic, archit., archaeol.).

I assume, in this case, that "archaic" is intended.
