View Full Version : Ain't amazin' ...

I'm not one of those Yankees fans who would actively root for any team that played the Mets. In fact, I kind of have the feeling that if the Yankees aren't in the World Series, it'd still be nice to have a NY team to root for.
But the Mets weren't amazin' at all tonight... at least not after the 8th inning. They gave up two in the top of the ninth to let the Cardinals break a 1-1 tie, and then couldn't get the job done despite loading the bases in the bottom of the ninth.
But you have to feel sorry for Carlos Beltran, standing there with two out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. Bad enough that you swing and miss. Bad enough that your second swing is a foul for strike two. But when you let a good one come across the plate and don't swing... ouch. That has got to hurt...
Oh well... I guess I'll root for the Tigers in the series. At least then I can say the Yankees lost to the best team in baseball in 2006.

Judy,
Surprise. Suprise. The pitching held up and the hitters fell down. To lose 3-1 should mean you were up against an all-star pitcher. (Tigers in 5)
You'd better darn well support the Tigers. Remember, I am from Michigan originally!

Judy,
Rooting didn't do the trick. The Tigers looked rusty and their rookie flamethrower looked like, well, a rookie tonight. Cards up 1 - zip.

The "Cardiac Cardinals" wield a double-edged sword. Sometimes the drama plays out until the last possible breath, and sometimes it strikes immediately and with great vigor.

Dan,
We'll see. The Redlegs have a grand baseball tradition and God knows they are due, but I still like the Tigers. <g>

If they pull this one out, then they shift suddenly from underdogs to favorites.
