I was going to invoke the "everyone has voted rule" so that we might not have to wait until the final deadline and of course I've been waiting about 24 hours for that final holdout voter. And of course the final holdout was an 'extra' identity that I didn't catch when going through the player list. So here we are, almost at the deadline anyway. Despite that, I have to say that dealing by email isn't nearly as bad as I anticipated and actually was pretty easy despite a couple of operator induced Cory glitches. Now if Paul would just allow Cory to access a user specified folder in the mail client it would *really* be a breeze.

And now to the awards -- Our new dealer is Hugo Kornelis, whose definition "1. Any collection of worthless items; 2. The act ofcollecting worthless items." earned a natural 6 .

John Barrs takes coveted second place with 5 points.

Votes were pretty evenly distributed and so there were 8 players in runner-up position with 3 points: Dave Cunningham, Chuck Emery, Marijke van Gans, Judy Madnick, Wayne Scott, Mike Shefler, Guerri Stevens and Tony Abell.

The actual definition was number 7: "To rub with or between the hands" (OED 2nd Edition), which 3 perceptive players guessed, giving me a D3.

Hi all,

I can't say I was caught by surprise. When I checked my mail this morning
and saw lots of votes for my definition, I knew it was time to hit the
dictionary and start hunting for a new word.

This is the word I found:

*****************
* H A K S P E K *
*****************

That is HAKSPEK. Or hakspek, Hakspek, or maybe even haKsPeK. Who knows? (I
do, but I won't tell <g>)

The deadline for submitting your definitions is about 24 hours from now:
June 11 2005, 23:59 here in the Netherlands. If I'm not completely mistaken,
that is June 11 2005, 21:59 GMT/UTC, or June 11 2005, 5:59 PM EDT.

New to the game? Like to participate but unsure what to do? No problem - the
rules are easy:
1. DON'T LOOK UP THE WORD IN YOUR DICTIONARY!!!! If you already happen to
know the meaning of the word, let me know as soon as possible (by personal
e-mail - see below). You can still submit a definition to earn points by
fooling the others, but you can't vote yourself. If too many people know the
word, I'll just select a new one and restart the round.
2. Create a dictionary-defnition for the word. Try to make it believable,
funny, or whatever else it takes to fool the other players.
3. Send your fake definition to me, BY PERSONAL E-MAIL!! If you read this on
the web, send e-mail to hugo (AT) perfact (DOT) info - don't post a reply to this
message on the web!! If you read this in a mail from the Coryphaeus Yahoo
Group, send e-mail to hugo (AT) perfact (DOT) info - don't reply directly to this
message (it will be sent to the group!)
4. Check back here later, some time after the deadline. I'll post a list of
all definitions I received, plus the one and only correct definition I found
in my dictionary. You'll get two chances to pick the correct one (but I'll
explain that part of the game in more process in that message).

That's about it (unless I've forgotten anything). Be creative and have fun!

Best, Hugo -anticipating your daffynitions!

Hi all,

I wrote:

But I forgot to include that this shortish deadline is the end result of
careful contemplation: it was either that, or at least 22 hours later.
Apologies for those who'd have preferred some more time.
(And if the list of defs is too short tomorrow, I might execute my dealer's
right to extend the deadline after all, but don't count on it! <g>)

Best, Hugo

Nice - but unfortunately, posted to the group.

There is still time for a second try, though. My email address is

Hi all,

With 14 hours and 10 minutes left until the deadline, I now have some
fabulous definitions, but not nearly enough. These definitions stem from the
creative brains of Abell, Carson, Cunningham, Goran, Scott, Wetztein, and
Widdis. If your name is not listed here but you did send a definition,
please re-send it. If you didn't send a definition yet, what are you waiting
for??

As a reminder, the word is HAKSPEK, my e-mail address is hugo (AT) perfact (DOT) info
and the deadline is June 11 2005, 23:59 here in the Netherlands. If I'm not
completely mistaken, that is June 11 2005, 21:59 GMT/UTC, or June 11 2005,
