Homefield Advantage (the so-called 10th man ), is now in the House that Ruth built as Detroit and Minnesota lost and the Yankees won 7-2 (Moose looking very sharp in his final start before the playoffs).

With the Big Unit on hold, even the Bronx Bombers need an edge and this is it. Wang, Mussina and Wright as the starters against either Detroit or Minnesota, with Lidle as the fourth starter. I doubt whether Johnson can pitch effectively.

"We got our 10th man," Sheffield said. "It's big in the playoffs, and as loud as these guys get, they're going to pull us all the way through."

Can't you see it... needing to send in one of the Baby Bombers somewhere???

Judy,

All's well that starts well. Jeter 5-5 with a home run! Damon, hitting .100 in September, gets two hits: a dribbler and a bloop single with his "emergency" swing to start the ball rolling. Damon, Jeter, Abru and Shef, all hit when it counted and helped lead the Yankees to an 8-4 victory. Wang was O.K. Got the ball up more than usual and so the home run ball against him. And what a DP early on: Jeter, ranged halfway to 3rd base and flipped to Cano who threw to Shef who made an amazing stretch to complete the double play!

Even the bullpen (sans Myers) did well. Both Proctor and Farnsworth showed their nerves (a couple hits and a couple walks respectively) before settling down and getting the Tigers out without giving up any runs. And Mo. Mo was just Mo. Mr. Automatic in the 9th innning.

Yanks win 8-4!!!

P.S. This from New York Newsday:

"A-Rod is batting sixth. That's good news. The Yankees can score two or three runs before he hits into a triple play."
