The reason I didn't even consider voting for what turned out to be the real
def was the unlikelihood of a real word's having an underscore somewhere
within it, which is how your ligature turned up on my screen. :-(

Kathryn,

I don't have stats on the last round you voted in, but you last dealt in
Round 1260 (jumentous), which would have been around December 2001.

In answer to your question, although the term 'natural score' has a long
precedent, the 1990 rules don't define it. For that you have to look in The
"Real" Rules:

9. The dealer breaks ties by elimination, applying the rules below in order
until one player remains:
(a) Eliminate any player who does not have a "natural score", that is, one
achieved without earning points for guessing correctly. ...

Thanks, Dan and Paul. I am truly awed by the knowledge that my deals are in
a database somewhere, so long after I have totally forgotten the real (or
any fake) meaning of "jumentous."

No need to be awestruck. You can look at the list of dealt words yourself at

Thanks to Lindsey, we can now say "Blame ethyl!"

The presence of the "ethyl" was the only reason I voted for that def.
Perhaps I should give you one of my points. :)
