When I deal, I allow about an hour between the deadline and the
final tallying and posting of results. Then I do make a quick
check to see if any "slightly late" votes have come in (perhaps
through a confusion in time zones); if any have, then I do
revise and post the new results.

What's the alternative? I think it would place an undue burden on
the dealer if the dealer were to e-mail all the submitters who
had not cast votes to ask if they were intending to vote; and of
course it would considerably extend the time involved, given our
different time zones.

If a very late vote comes in after the results have been posted,
through no fault of the voter, that's too bad, but the posted
results should stand.

I agree.

And please, guys (m/f) - let's all not forget that this is just a game! When
I posted my whiney message that started this diiscussion, I was actually
just joking, making fun of my own pathetic scores. I never intended to start
a heated discussion on how to handle late votes.

Remember, da rulez clearly state that:

"The purpose of the game is to have fun, not to play lawyer with the
rules. These Rules explain the spirit of the game, for those who want to
play it and are concerned not with sailing close to the line, but with
knowing clearly what that spirit is. If amassing points starts to be of
more than secondary importance to you, you need a break."

Best, Hugo

Sounds like you're rules-lawyering stating that the rules say you aren't
supposed to play lawyer with the rules. ;)

And anyway, that's never stopped us before. Playing lawyer is fun for some
of us!

Another thought: If someone notices that his or her vote hasn't appeared via email, couldn't he or she send it via private message to the dealer?

Simpler would be to just email the vote to the dealer at the same time you post it to the forum.

um -- doesn't that sort of defeat the entire system?

How so?
