For the benefit of the three players other than me that didn't know
about mondegreen, here is the entirely implausible definition from
Chambers:

a phrase, often humorous or nonsensical, that results from mishearing
the lyric of a song [coined in 1954 by Sylvia Wright after she had
mistaken the phrase _laid him on the green_ for _Lady Mondegreen_]

I think this is a case of harmful drudges carefully transporting
nonsense from one dictionary to the next (with apologies to Steiner).

_Nowy_, on the other hand, is a real word, and so far I have received
15 definitions, from the following players:

Tony Abell, Rosemary Allen, John Barrs, Tim Bourne, Chris Carson, Dave
Cunningham, Chuck Emery, Bill Hirst, Tim Lodge, Judy Madnick, Toni
Savage, Suzanne Selby, Mike Shefler, Guerri Stevens and Daniel Widdis.

If your name is not in this list, please resubmit your definition.

The word, in case you missed the initial posting, is NOWY:
capitalization is not significant. You still have 12 hours to submit
your fake definitions for this word, which you should of course send
me by _email_. If you like, use address round.1703 (AT) prodigycomputing (DOT) com.

The deadline for submissions is on Friday 21 April 2006 at

03:00 PDT (in the morning)
04:00 MDT
05:00 CDT
06:00 EDT
10:00 UTC
11:00 BST
and noon CEST for me.

At noon tomorrow I will not be panting to resolve the round. I will be
at work, queueing for a fish lunch in my staff restaurant. So
latecomers need not fret too much over the exact hour.
