Is your "his" is referring to me? If so, I am a her. But if you did make
that mistake, I am thrilled. We had a discussion about names some time ago
in the CompuServe TAPCIS forum, and a couple of people said they always
assumed that names ending in "i" were female. My experience, though, has
been that the majority of people seeing my name would assume male.

And this was a change from the last version. I've requested that they go back to including it. It's possible that it "disappeared" by accident (i.e., some other change caused it . . . which occasionally happens), or maybe several people requested a bit of anonymity. <G>

Woops! I'm sorry, Guerri.

<phew!> Well, I'm glad that I didn't offend you!

I hate to disappoint you, but I don't think that my mistake helps much in
this debate. Being Dutch, my frame of reference (is that how it's called in
English??) is bound to differ from that of native English speakers.

Best, Hugo

Toni,

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad it threads alright. Yes, Eudora (stone age
version 1.5.4) is my email program, i read the forum as a bunch of emails
and reply to them offline. Then go online to post to the cory list and get
the next batch of messages.

Almost as good as the olden days, i'm online just 2 minutes per pass, a few
times per day. May check in to www.tapcis.com from time to time to check the
non-Parlor sections, or to the cory list website for downloads. For the
moment i'm having a break from direct participation in web boards, eats too
much time.

Don't know *why* it threads. I saw some advanced In-Reply-To headers and
other newsgroup-like threading info in *some* people's headers, but not in
mine! They must have some good heuristics in tapcis.com's vBulletin software.

FWIW i always assumed "Guerri" was a female name (probably the -i). But ISTR
seeing a message (not by you) in one of our many Dixoid fora recently
berating someone else for assuming it was a female name and saying it was
male... can't find it now, did i dream that? Anyway, i was just trying to
get used to having to remind myself you were male, and remembering not to
use the wrong pronoun, and now this! I'm glad you're female again <g>.

Didn't Jacques Brel sing something about "Marijke, Marijke?"

Hi Toni,

>Didn't Jacques Brel sing something about "Marijke, Marijke?"

Close, but no fish.

The song you're referring to is called "Marieke". If you've ever heard it,
you still don't know how to pronounce "Marijke", as the "ij" (which is
actually one letter in the Dutch alphabet, located between the x and the z)
is not pronounced the way "ie" is.

In case you want to know - the complete lyrics of Brel's "Marieke" are here:

Probably! The rest will have to practice with

I have assumed you are female too.

My big problem now is how come none of the Coryphaeus messages over the past 24 hours or so have been delivered to my CompuServe mailbox. I am reading and replying to this stuff in the TAPCIS.COM parlor.

I'm not playing the game, but I think I'm able to pronounce it correctly, too.

It does help that a former employer did a lot of business in The Netherlands, and I worked with a lot of Dutch people. Hopefully, that doesn't disqualify me. <g>
