You have a winning pitcher called Lopez and you're calling the DRays "South America"? Not to mention (in addition to the pitcher named Rodrigo Lopez) players named Daniel Cabrera, Ramon Hernandez, Javy Lopez, Chris Gomez, Miguel Tejada and Luis Matos...

Judy,

Johnson was magnificient! In his own words, “Not many strikeouts, no walks, and if they get hits, they have to string them together to get runs. There’s nothing wrong with giving up a home run as long as it’s a solo homer. For the most part, I was pretty efficient.”

His slider was biting and they were hitting lots of ground balls!

You are lacking in fundamental geographic skills.

Florida is in South America.

So the Yankees beat Philadelphia. What else is new?

Randy going 7 innings is what we need. Now if he can do it routinely...

Judy,

A No. 1 pitcher is what we need and haven't had for a while. I hope Johnson is that go to guy. Mussina will have his streaks only I hope this year he saves his best for the end of the year. The key will be if last year's heros. Small, Chacon and Wong can do likewise this year imo.

Judy,

Sigh. On to Game 3. Game 2 was very unsatisfying.

Oakland 4, New York 3

O.K. I get it that Mussina's 7 innings, 5 hits and 3 runs was mediocre for him. But it was his first start. What I don't get is having Farnsworth set up Proctor (instead of the reverse). Farnsworth was a closer, Proctor just a loyal Yankee. I would be O.K. if Farnsworth was setting up Sandman, but this?

At least the Red Sox lost bad. That makes it feel better somehow.

Judy,

Beantown? Schilling, then rain, then snow and finally Schilling again and only then do they have a chance.

I'm surprised Nick has not commented on Jason's great defense over the past two days....

Mike,

Groan. Somehow I knew you'd bring that up. I'm trying to ignore Jason entirely. Perhaps it is not too late for Bernie to learn how to play first base.

Now now... we shouldn't be this nasty this early in the season.

Heh heh heh...

I don't know if he participated in the disaster last night, or was that just Cano's fault; but, the first two games showed how slow Jason is. He missed a ball on Tuesday that was almost a gimme.

Mike,

All I know is that first base has been first rate with the Yankees over the years. Jason Giambi should take his ego and first base glove and stick it where the sun don't shine, for that is where his talents reside while in the field.

As for Cano, his excuses are beginning to remind me of Soriano at 2nd base. And Wright was wrong (again) with three hits and four runs in two innings.

Wang was only good through the first 3 inning, after that he struggled and as everybody knows, a starter needs to at the very least, get through the 6th inning otherwise he wears out the bullpen...real fast.

Baltimore and Boston are 2-1, Toronto 1-1 and the Yankees are in 4th place at 1-2.

Mike,

What's that old saying? What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. Well the Yankees could not have asked for a harder road trip. First stop the A's and now the Angels. Talk about a test of fortitude.
