As the cousin of a lovely, bright, sweet young woman who lost a lifelong fight with depression to suicide last year, I am 1000% in favor of anything that might help people choose life over suicide.

As a former Latin wonk and medievalist, I was impressed by the Magna Carta translation. The people who created it knew what they were doing. Even if I had not forgotten all of my high school latin, I probably would not be able to decipher such a document. However, perhaps the US Conference of Catholic Bishops should have hired somebody such as whoever did that UK translation of Magna Carta to translate the 1970 post-Vatican II Liturgy of the Mass. They're (USCCB) now doing a retranslation of the new (36 year old) liturgy from the latin and hope to have it done in a couple years. Some of the mistranslations have become so well memorized in the English translation that they may have to be left "as is" to avoid upsetting the laity too much.
