Hi all,

Round 1694 was a somewhat odd round. I'll remember it as a round of tough decisions and a stupid mistake.

The correct definition, as three of you have guessed, was #9, the esteemed Middle-Aged fur of an unknown number of animals. Fromn Webster's 1913. However, when the round was already well underway, I found out that the definition in newer dictionaries has changed. For instance: "trimming on ceremonial robes consisting of white or light gray fur" in WordNet 2.0, and a similar def in The American Heritage, 4th ed. And lo and behold, what happened - Johnny promptly submitted a def that would have been a major candidate for combining with the newer defintion, but was (IMO) not close enough to the definition I had chosen to warrant combining. I seriously considered moving to the newer definition and combining it with Johnny's def, but decided against it - the sole reason I chose this word was the un-dictionary-like admission of not knowing how many animals were involved.

After that, things got really out of hand. Paul added yet another definition with fur to the equation, and Chris and Russ forced me to contemplate if an eel can be both transparent and smoked at the same time. And due to me pating way too muich attention to combining or not combining the various eel- or fur-related defs, I managed to completely overlook the very obvious combination of the two fussbudgets that Tony and Chuck had submitted. What can I say? Coryphaeus even did a final desperate attempt to make me see the errors of my ways by putting these two defs directly after each other when I ask it to randomize the order - but to no avail, I still overlooked this combination.

The good news is that the votes were very evenly spread. Noone who submitted a def is left empty-handed.

Chris Carson's eel and Tony Abell's fussbudget both garnered 5 natural points. Since Chris is ahead in the rolling scores, he gets the honor of the next deal, and both Tony and Toni can rejoice in the knowledge of getting the same number of points without any obligation to deal.

On to you, Chris!

Best, Hugo

> Actually, 1694 is quite even. You're just an odd dealer. ;)

Thanks, Dan. :-P
