Here and there. Florida to see my mother. The Great Cathedral in the Bronx in mid-July (White Sox game). Would you believe Wildwood Crest later in August? <g>

Mike, I believe you--we stay down there when we go to Cape May--usually after Labor Day when it's less crowded and motel prices go down--you can still catch great weather and the hawk counts take place for the birdwatchers. Regards, Len

On April 5, I'm flying from LAX to Ft. Lauderdale. The next morning I get aboard the RSSC Navigator and head for Canaveral, Savannah, Charleston, Bermuda, Nassau, back to Lauderdale and 3 days later head across the Atlantic to Madeira, Casablance, Malaga, Barcelona, Carcasonne, and end up in Monte Carlo. Then fly home from Nice via London.
Then on June 22 I join my son's choral on a trip to Vienna, Salzburg and fly home from Venice.
Then I just sit around the house until late August when I visit the Inland Passage in Alaska.

The real problem is that it's just too damned big an organization to be manageable, and the guy at the top has virtually NO management experience. Talk about a baaaaaaad mix...

Mike Landi
March 22nd, 2006, 04:00 PM
The real problem is that it's just too damned big an organization to be manageable,

Amen, sister, amen. Too big, too many levels of bureaucracy, too much under one roof.

...and too important a responsibility for bureaucrats.

Judy G. Russell
March 22nd, 2006, 04:14 PM
I understand all too well the difficulties and dangers of having responsibility spread too thin. I remember sitting at a meeting of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force that I directed, telling representatives of a bunch of different law enforcement agencies that they were all acting like turf-protective two-year-olds ("mine!" "no, mine!"). But there has to be something better, somewhere between total turf-protection and total "everything under one roof".

Mike Landi
March 22nd, 2006, 08:36 PM
there has to be something better, somewhere between total turf-protection and total "everything under one roof".

There is, but to get there, America will have to accept either military control over travel and trade (a bad idea) or accept more intrusions into their personal business (as in searcing all packages, containers, luggage, and shipments) which is contrary to the expectations that most of us have.

Absent those two, the only solution is a big dog and pony show with the hope that the bad guys remain dumb and unlucky. Not a great choice....
