While we are on the topic, I am learning the ins and outs of a new toy -- Nikon D-50, 18 - 55mm zoom and 55 - 200mm zoom (multiply by 1.5 for 35mm equivalent). I really like having a wide angle lens again.

Clearly I did not figure it out. I think the file was too big. How do you show off a new camera with a 244KB limit?

So let's try it this way. Not artistic, but fun playing with the wide angle lens:

Cool! I wonder if I can get a lens that does that for my G3...

If you consider selling the G6, let me know.... <g>

Let me see if I can figure out how....Pbase, of course. Mike and I both use it. My stuff is here (http://www.pbase.com/jgr) and Mike's is here (http://www.pbase.com/landi/root).

Cool! I wonder if I can get a lens that does that for my G3...No, but you can stitch photos together for a panorama. (http://www.pbase.com/jgr/image/1765889/large)

If you consider selling the G6, let me know.... <g>Not a chance. This would be in addition to the G6 not instead of! There are still too many cases where I just wouldn't want the heft of the Rebel.

I've done that and it does work well, especially with a tripod.

...can't blame a guy for trying. <g>

Nothing special about the lens, except that the 18mm focal length allowed me to get the whole building in without climbing a tree. The panoramic view was achieved by cropping in ThumbsPlus.

The wide-angle tended to make the vertical building lines converge (perspective and all athat), so I composed the frame with the building near the top to straighten out the verticals, and cropped off the bottom 2/3 or so.

Not at all... and who knows? When the G7 (or whatever) comes out, I could be tempted!

A tripod is best but it even works reasonably well without it, which never ceases to amaze me.

I wondered how you did that....

You sure you don't want to part with the G6? <gd&r>

That dish is for radio astronomy?

Whenever I try without a tripod, I wind up having to crop a lot of tops and bottoms of each picture. I don't seem to pan left and right without raising or lowering the camera.

The tripod solves that problem (for me).

No, we have both uplink and downlink satellite access. Never use it, though, it just sits there cold. Everybody thought satellite links would be the hot thing, and now teleconferences are using the Net.

Are you using the stitch feature on the camera? That can really help make it easier.

Not yet, darn it!!!
