Well, I do write them down -- usually in my Time & Chaos address book where I list company information. I can protect myself just so much. <sigh> In this case, I had put the password where I had my email-program information, not with my CompuServe information, because at one time I had used it to configure my email program to accept CompuServe email.

I finally had to give up and get a password keeper. I've been using PIKeeper but I see in one of the recent magazines that there is a utility that will not only keep track of your various passwords but also automatically log in and fill out forms.

Firefox will remember what you filled in in form fields. When i fill in a
form and there is a field "name" it gives me a popup menu

to choose from. Same with loginname, email, home page, DOB, snail address
etc. Significantly, it does NOT do it with passwords.

I never want any gizmo that remembers passwords locally on my PC. You
wouldn't either if you had four PC's stolen in that many burglaries. Bad
enough if the scrotes take your data and hardware, no need to let them
impersonate you and insult your friends at your online hangouts, and buy
everything from amazon and eBay on your account.

I wouldn't mind one of those new IBM thinkpads that recognise your
fingerprint. As soon as they add a sensor for signs of life that is -- don't
fancy having the thieves come back with a meat cleaver to steal my index finger.
