I received the following message in response to my sending of a vote for
BARGUEST:
----
We are unable to deliver the message from <guerri (AT) tapcis (DOT) com>
to <coryphaeus (AT) yahoogroups (DOT) com>.

You can only send plain text messages to this group. HTML or
other formats are not allowed.
----

I was away from home working at a local library. I tried sending my vote
with MAIL2WEB which could not send a message for some reason. I then
logged onto tapcis.com and used the web mail there to try to send it. I
didn't even check to see what font was being used.

It matters to the people who would have received points for my votes,
but not to me since I didn't submit a definition and didn't guess the
true one. But for future reference, is it true that only plain text can
be sent to the group?

Apparently so. I looked around for a setting to change it and couldn't
find it.

Most clients, by default, send a plaintext version *and* an HTML
version. Webmail is apparently an exception.

You could always use the web boards at www.tapcis.com to vote, since
they submit in the appropriate format.

You know, I didn't even think of voting directly in the tapcis forum,
nor did I think about voting directly in the Cory group, either of which
would have worked. I was in a hurry, as I recall, and since the webmail
worked (or seemingly did) I just went on my way. Next time I'll try to
remember to go directly to the group itself.

Later I'll look at the webmail and see if it is possible to send a
text-only message.

What is the setting in edit Membership which says 'convert to HTML/leave as is' about? Surely it isn't suggesting it can convert
text to HTML - and if not then ???

The message format option is to convert ascii TO html, if it isn't already.
It doesn't do anything with messages that are html already. The issue is
that the group is set accept incoming messages in ascii only. This is so
that ascii-only clients like Tapcis won't get unreadable garbage.

Dan, I went into the tapcis webmail tonight to check on any settings
that might affect whether a message would be HTML or text. There was a
setting to "use HTML when composing a message" and it was checked. So I
unchecked it.

There was also a setting for "scheduled delivery" set to 1 hour. I am
not certain, but from the pop-up help, it appears that it might defer
sending a message for an hour. Which may mean that I thought my voting
message had been sent, when in reality it was not sent until an hour
later. Possibly had it been immediate I would have known it was rejected
by the Cory group before I logged off. Oh, well.
