Sorry I'm a touch late, but here are 19 definitions one of which is from a mainline, American, recognized dictionary that is in many homes and all American and probably almost all British dictionaries. Vote for 2 of the least improbable by replying to this message. The polls will close Friday evening, December 2, 2005, at 9 P.M., PST, which will be midnight EST and 0500 GMT, 3/12/2005.

1. a filled yogurt cake with lemon ouzo syrup.

2. leptons with left-handed, half-integer spin.

3. mongol: a solid-wheel cart used to transport yurts, often painted black ['tau-saghyz'=black-wheel]

4. the last letter in the Turkic Saghyz alphabet, originally equivalent to the Arabic letter "ta" and represented by the Roman letter "T" since the overthrow of the Ottoman Empire.

5. something that pinches or holds fast.

6. a duelling weapon used in the time of the Moghul empire.

7. a basic principle of a minor Buddist sect.

8. a hypothesis of quantum physics that states that the annhilation of a particle and an anti-particle of opposite spins will produce exactly 2 muons.

9. a momentary lapse in concentration.

10. an auto-immune disease affecting the cornea of the eye.

11. a machine used in oil-drilling to plug dry wells.

12. a rare Oriental cat having a short, dark gray coat, with black ear's and feet and a black tail.

13. the letter tau (t) with dieresis, formerly the uncommon last letter of the alphabet of Gaugauz, a Turkic language that was written in the Greek alphabet until 1957; hence _fig_ something both exotic and inconvenient.

14. an intermediate particle, with a very short half-life, produced in the decay of Strontium 90.

15. in Norse myth, the repository of ultimate knowledge, guarded by the blind god Hoth, to whom its contents were forbidden.

16. _Zool_ the internal shell or pen, of a cuttlefish or squid.

17. the component of a star's proper motion that lies perpendicular to a great circle passing through the star and the solar apex.

18. a perennial yellow-headed herb (Scorzonera tau-saghyz) of the family Compositae that is native to the Kazakh republic of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, bears leafy rosettes, and is cultivated for its rubber-containing roots.

19. large ceremonial Turkish pipe.

Whew! I hope I have transcribed these accurately, but I am EXTREMELY fallible. If you see a typo, do not reject the definition because a dictionary wouldn't make such an error.

Have fun, folks!

Right off the bat I see I mentioned that the dictionary was in all American dictionaries when I meant in all American LIBRARIES.

Hi Wayne,

Too bad that my definition arrived too late.

Oh well. Ican still score 2 points by guessing the correct def. I guess I'll
fall for the particle physics this time:

2. leptons with left-handed, half-integer spin.

14. an intermediate particle, with a very short half-life, produced in
the decay of Strontium 90.

Best, Hugo

Granted, it sounds a lot like a subatomic particle, but for technical
reasons I reject the two offered. Likewise, I'm not persuaded by
foods, grocer's apostrophes or rubber roots.

Instead, I'll take a letter and the pipe: 4 and 19 (and if the blind
god doesn't exist in Norse mythology, he should).

I don't particularly like any of them, so I'll toss my votes to # 4 and
# 18, please.
