I don't quite follow, but are you saying that BrE used to use "first name",
as we do, and that "forename" is only used there recently???

AFAIK 'yes' - but its crept in rather than a sudden change and I can't remember when

My perception, as a native speaker of BrE, is that the most
common usage is still "Christian name", but PCspeak is
gradually changing it to "forename". I don't think "first
name" has ever been widely used - but I may be wrong; I've
not done extensive research on this!

A quick bit of research, on an order form in a catalogue
that arrived today, shows "first name" and "surname".
