I certainly did not choose a very hard-to-guess word! Though no one came
forward as DQ, no fewer than five players identified the real definition,
"Existing in a certain manner". Ryan McGill's definition, "trendy or
mimicking, literally "in that style"" was so close, I felt I had to combine
his with the real definition, lest people notice the two similar definitions
and vote for both, knowing a dealer's reluctance to combine a player's def
with the real one.

Ryan admitted in his submission that he could identify parts of the word, but
didn't know its meaning. Unfortunately, he may have believed that submitting a
definition similar to the real one makes one DQ (it does not). That may be why
he didn't vote. It's just as well that he didn't, since his 5 natural points
make him the next dealer, anyway. John Barrs is the runner-up with 5 unnatural
points.

So, if you're out there, Ryan...take it away!

1. Fiery; ill-tempered.
Voted for by nobody
SOURCE: Judy Madnick, who voted 7 and 9, and scores 0 + 0 = 0

2. Of or related to funerary practices among certain Indonesian tribes.
Voted for by nobody
SOURCE: Efrem Mallach, who voted 10 and 12, and scores 0 + 0 = 0

3. Existing in a certain manner; trendy or mimicking, literally "in that
style".
Voted for by Mike Shefler, Keith Hale, Shani Naylor, John Barrs, Guerri
Stevens
SOURCE: The Phrontistery (IHL), which cannot vote, and scores D5
AND: Ryan McGill, who didn't vote, and scores 5 + 0 = 5

4. Uncanny; difficult to define or describe.
Voted for by nobody
SOURCE: Keith Hale, who voted *3* and 6, and scores 0 + 2 = 2*

5. [Sl.] of or pertaining to Brixton prison, particularly in the early 19th
century, when it was notorious as one of the worst prisons in London.
Voted for by Tim Lodge
SOURCE: Mike Shefler, who voted *3* and 11, and scores 1 + 2 = 3*

6. Depending on the quantity of particles, especially molecules or ions, but
not on their chemical nature.
Voted for by Keith Hale, Dave Cunningham, John Barrs, Tim Bourne
SOURCE: Chris Carson, who didn't vote, and scores 4 + 0 = 4

7. Of or relating to a trial and error solution.
Voted for by Judy Madnick
SOURCE: Tim Lodge, who voted 5 and 8, and scores 1 + 0 = 1

8. (2017) On Twitter, any tweet evoking a “what did you mean by that?”
response.
Voted for by Tim Lodge
SOURCE: Dave Cunningham, who voted 6 and 11, and scores 1 + 0 = 1

9. Of an unknown duration.
Voted for by Judy Madnick, Guerri Stevens
SOURCE: Tim Bourne, who voted 6 and 12, and scores 2 + 0 = 2

10. Of or pertaining to one’s official responsibilities.
Voted for by Efrem Mallach
SOURCE: Shani Naylor, who voted *3* and 11, and scores 1 + 2 = 3*

11. The sign on an inn or tavern [literally answering the question "where can I
stay?" in essence it says "here"]
Voted for by Mike Shefler, Shani Naylor, Dave Cunningham
SOURCE: John Barrs, who voted *3* and 6, and scores 3 + 2 = 5*

12. In music, a pulsating effect caused by rapid changes of pitch.
Voted for by Efrem Mallach, Tim Bourne
SOURCE: Guerri Stevens, who voted *3* and 9, and scores 2 + 2 = 4*

Don't be scared, pick a player to ask for help! (I'd aim for high on the
rolling scores or the total scores!)

It's fun, once you get going.

Ryan McGill
January 15th, 2018, 12:53 PM
Hey, everyone! This is a happy surprise, and completely unexpected.

I'm not scared, just away from the desktop, which is why I didn't vote.

I'll post within the next 12 hours, as I didn't have a word prepared, and
I'm not familiar with the rules of dealing yet. And the only marginally
obscure word on my brain currently is Klingon. And I still have a day's
work to get through.

Is any more experienced player available to answer a few questions by text
while I ponder? My number's in the directory.

Also, Tony, I found all three roots of your word relatively recognizable,
as I have a thing for math, language, and pie.
