Here we have 13 carefully-crafted defs of the word KEITAI, only one of
which came from my dictionary. Please vote for your two favourites by
public reply to this message before the deadline of:

10:00 UTC/GMT on Saturday 23rd December

21:00 AEDT in Melbourne
23:00 NZDT in New Zealand

1. an in-group member.

2. in Japan: a mobile phone.

3. [Maori] (lit. "good smell") perfume.

4. cloth made from the bark of the wauke tree.

5. the peace between foes when fighting a common enemy

6. green fruits from rambutan (_Nephelium lappaceum_)

7. a sort of wooden lock used in early Japanese castles.

8. a clear, very strong Chinese liquor distilled from sorghum.

9. shell money used by American Indians of northern California.

10. a traditional Japanese food made from the Konjac potato
(Devil's Tongue plant).

The syllabic pattern on this one appears pretty distinctly Japanese, though
some of the other Pacific island-oriented definitions are intriguing, too.

I'm going culinary: 6 & 10, please.
