Hi Ryan

Welcome! We're always keen for new players.

As I'm sure you know, this is a simple game, but there are a few rules to
be aware of.

DQ is when you know the word or think you know the word (because you can't
vote if you do). You should send a private msg to the dealer if you see a
word you know. If too many people DQ, they will choose another word. Also,
when the definition list comes up, if you realise at that point that you
know the word, you'll be DQ and can't vote. Let the dealer know.

Rules are available here:
http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules

You are best to stick with the basic rules until you've been playing a
while, as the "real rules" may be a little overwhelming for a newbie (and
the more obscure points are only very rarely invoked).

And feel free to ask about anything - either to players individually or to
the whole group. We're all very friendly here & happy to help.

Cheers
Shani

From Ryan McGill:

I'm new here; is there a resource for style, conventions, dictionary
preference and the like, an FAQ or whatever? I'm seeing some terminology I
can't quite wrap my head around (DQ for example).

Yes, welcome, Ryan! I'm among the most recent 5-10 new players (or was,
until very recently). It is a fun, and helpful group, and quite forgiving
when things go a little wrong. (Or a lot wrong, like when i dealt a list
without the real def. ]#8 ).

As for as style and conventions, i'd say that each dealer keeps an eye on
that. Some begin all definitions with a lowercase letter, some omit a
final period ... basically they try to make all the styles match so that
none stand out. I think i can recall lists where the styles were fairly
"mixt".

I've enjoyed the game since January 2011, and the group is friendly, smart,
and often hilarious. [C8

Hi Ryan and welcome

in the rules somewhere it will state that we do not use words already
played: on dixionary.net is a list of played words - it is currently a
couple of months (maybe more) out of date - I will update it over the
weekend and publish the fact to the group with the appropriate links
