View Full Version : [Dixonary] ROUND 2828 - GASCONADE - VOTE NOW!

Judy Madnick
August 22nd, 2017, 08:18 AM
Here are 12 definitions for the word GASCONADE, but only one is correct. Please send your votes (by responding to this email) for what you believe are the two definitions most likely to have come from a dictionary. The deadline for voting is Wednesday, August 23, at 8 p.m. ET. As usual, I will let you determine the time in your time zone. :-)

Any misspellings, weird spacing, etc., are my fault and not an indication of the accuracy of a particular definition.

Good luck!

1. a thoroughfare for horses and foot traffic, but too small for carriages.
2. a hat pointed in front and in back, with its left brim raised and its right brim level, named for its place of origin (Gascony).
3. a blustering manner or behavior.
4. a blockage of some sort; a barricade.
5. a fit of petulance, from the people of Gascony who were claimed to have that nature.
6. a light fizzy drink similar to prosecco found in SW France [originally the province of Gascony].
7. a lengthy, but satirical tribute to a person, place or event.
8. concentrated musket fire by infantry in three ranks, achieved by each rank kneeling to reload after firing, allowing rear ranks to fire over their heads.
9. firefighters.
10. flavored seltzer.
11. in climbing, a kind of grip which involves pushing a hold instead of pulling.
12. to brag or boast.

Am I the first to vote? After four hours - how odd.

I'll take the blustering and boasting: 3 and 12, please.

3. a blustering manner or behavior.

12. to brag or boast.
