I have worked out why on my part it happened that you personally
received my votes rather than the group

I use Thunderbird for most of my emails:

In the past a plain 'reply' to a post from anyone in the group always
went to the group address - as did 'reply list' and 'reply all' - they
only went to the group - in fact it was awkward to reply to the sender
only for one had to say 'reply', delete the group address and replace it
with the sender's address. (in other words,TB worked like using the
group in a browser - 'reply' is the only option and it goes to the group)

_*Now*_ 'reply' goes to the actual sender and 'reply list' goes to the
group and 'reply all' goes to both group and sender

so what has changed?: I have a new machine which is 64 bit. (The old one
32 bit) - both are running Windows 10 (again 64 or 32 bit appropriately)
- I have not changed TB (it is 32 bit anyway) but it might work
differently in a 64 bit environment

The only other thing I can suggest is that maybe at last google groups
is using the correct header flags so that the different reply options
actually work - I will do some more playing on both my old machine and
this new one to see if I can pin down any more differences

I think Google Groups has changed the way it formats messages. In the past, when I hit reply to a
group message, the To field contained the group address, but now it contains the individual address.
I thought that was just my system, but it sounds as if others are being affected the same way.

I'm using Thunderbird.

Best wishes,
Tim Bourne.

I'm replying to a group message now...and as far as I can tell from here, it went only to the group. Please let me know if it additionally went to you individually. Perhaps it depends on the email program a group member is using.

I think you're on the right track, although I suspect it's more likely to
be a Google thing rather than Thunderbird. I only get a daily summary by
email, so the headers I see are different.to the ones you'd get. The clue
might be in the Return-path header line.

I think it must. I can't see any change in the message headers, but I'm not aware of any change to
Thunderbird, and I certainly haven't changed any TB options.

I think it is googlegroups, neither windows nor TB. I have changed
Machines and therefore Windows (from windows 10 pro 32 bit to windows 10
home 64 bit) but I have not changed TB

Mind you: I know of a company where all machines were on Windows 7: some
machines were resident in the office and these were on win 7pro. Others
were on the 'road' or working from home and these were mostly win 7
home. In accordance with company policy these all let windows do its
updates to win 10 (except one of the 'on-the-road' computers which did
not have the hardware to be updated from win 7 and most of the tablets
also would not update to win10)

All sorts of things now stopped working together, mostly related to
server issues but not all of them, some were other company bespoke
software that no longer worked **consistently**.... it seemed initially
to be the difference beween 10 pro and 10 home. After a lot of research
the company is now using its computer people to revert all machines to
Win7 pro becasue they need the tablets to work.

As an aside: many decades ago I got involved with timing tests (Win 95).
I over here could run the same tests up to 10 times faster than my
opposite number in the USA (we won the PC Mag database speed shoutout
over here and came last over in USA) we exhanged software, we changed
windows installation options, we even exchanged the machines thmeselves
- no changes at all in the results. The only way he could match my
timings was to use my machine, installed over here and never-ever
connect it to the internet over there....Then at last we ran it down...
it was the implementation of language code pages which are (were then)
always updated when you connect to the internet. Code pages for 44 and
some of the Western ISOcodes were definitely different between Europe
and the Americas. Whether that is true now I wouldn't know, and I no
longer have the energy to try and find out.

Nothing has changed on the group setup.* Messages are still sent with the “reply to” field set to the group list.

Thunderbird does have the ability to designate an email address as a mailing list, and doing so enables the functionality you describe.* I actually had my TB configured to do that, primarily for this list!** If only it had Exchange support I’d have stuck with it…

I’m not quite sure anymore how to change it, but it does involve how you configure the mailing list.* This page may or may not be helpful: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Help_Documentation:Mail-Followup-To_and_Mail-Reply-To

I just replied to your message and Tbird replied to the group, which is
what I wanted it to do. I guess that to be totally accurate, I should
say that what I see as I am composing this message seems to be that the
message will go to the group. What will happen when I say "send" is as
yet unknown.

Mind you: I know of a company where all machines were on Windows 7: some machines were resident in the office and these were on win 7pro. Others were on the 'road' or working from home and these were mostly win 7 home. In accordance with company policy these all let windows do its updates to win 10 (except one of the 'on-the-road' computers which did not have the hardware to be updated from win 7 and most of the tablets also would not update to win10)

All sorts of things now stopped working together, mostly related to server issues but not all of them, some were other company bespoke software that no longer worked **consistently**.... it seemed initially to be the difference beween 10 pro and 10 home. After a lot of research the company is now using its computer people to revert all machines to Win7 pro becasue they need the tablets to work.

As an aside: many decades ago I got involved with timing tests (Win 95). I over here could run the same tests up to 10 times faster than my opposite number in the USA (we won the PC Mag database speed shoutout over here and came last over in USA) we exhanged software, we changed windows installation options, we even exchanged the machines thmeselves - no changes at all in the results. The only way he could match my timings was to use my machine, installed over here and never-ever connect it to the internet over there....Then at last we ran it down... it was the implementation of language code pages which are (were then) always updated when you connect to the internet. I have worked out why on my part it happened that you personally received my votes rather than the group

I use Thunderbird for most of my emails:

In the past a plain 'reply' to a post from anyone in the group always went to the group address - as did 'reply list' and 'reply all' - they only went to the group - in fact it was awkward to reply to the sender only for one had to say 'reply', delete the group address and replace it with the sender's address. (in other words,TB worked like using the group in a browser - 'reply' is the only option and it goes to the group)

Now 'reply' goes to the actual sender and 'reply list' goes to the group and 'reply all' goes to both group and sender

so what has changed?: I have a new machine which is 64 bit. (The old one 32 bit) - both are running Windows 10 (again 64 or 32 bit appropriately) - I have not changed TB (it is 32 bit anyway) but it might work differently in a 64 bit environment

The only other thing I can suggest is that maybe at last google groups is using the correct header flags so that the different reply options actually work - I will do some more playing on both my old machine and* this new one to see if I can pin down any more differences
