Hi all,

I felt compelled to post targe because we all need a word for a "formidably
aggressive older woman," don't we? I'm calling myself Targe from now on!
(My husband found it -- hmmm...) It's Scottish slang, a secondary
definition of a word that several of you knew as a "small shield." That
wasn't counted as a DQ.

The dictionary scored five, tied with the winnah, Shani Naylor (five
natural for the brined cheese) and the real winnah, Tim Lodge (five
unnatural for the spliced eye).

Here are the results. Take it away, Shani!

Nancy

1. A type of brined cheese from the Balkans, made of sheep or goat's milk.
Shani Naylor
Votes: Madnick, Stevens, Shefler, Mallach, Carson
0 + 5 = 5

2. To plaster over; to cover with ornamental plasterwork
Judy Madnick
Votes: Lodge, Hale
0 + 2 = 2

3. _Norwegian_ a shopping mall.
Dave Cunningham
0 + 0 = 0

4. a biome in the northern Urals characterized by a dry sub-arctic climate.
Mike Shefler
Votes: Bourne, Mallach
0 + 2 = 2

5. (also tarj) a Bedouin lamb or goat dish seasoned with cumin.
Efrem Mallach
Votes: Cunningham, Shefler
0 + 2 = 2

6. the habit of relying on intuition rather than facts, even when facts are
available.
Guerri Stevens
Votes: Barrs, Widdis
2* + 2 = 4

7. A sheer fabric woven of silk or cotton and wool.
Chris Carson
2* = 0 = 2

8. A formidably aggressive older woman
Oxforddictionaries.com
Votes: Lodge, Stevens, Barrs, Widdis, Carson
D5

9. a straw target used for training long-bow archers
Johnny Barrs
Votes: Hale
2* + 1 = 3

10. A repositionable crosshair device for a bow, or crossbow.
Keith Hale
0 + 0 = 0

11. [Naut.] a spliced eye or loop in a mooring warp, designed to be slipped
over a bollard.
Tim Lodge
Votes: Bourne, Madnick, Cunningham
2* + 3 = 5

No def: Dan Widdis
2* + 0 = 2

Nancy,

Didn’t Shani vote for 2 and 7? I had her voting message at 7:33 pm Eastern on Saturday.

Chris

That is correct and sorry I missed it. Mike S. has thankfully already seen
and made the correction in the rolling scores.

Nancy

(I knew something would go wrong in an otherwise smooth deal...)
