The runaway winner of round 2772 is Tim Lodge, whose land steward received 5 votes, plus 2 points for guessing the correct def.
John Barrs is the real winner with 5 points.
The true definition was the cheating mason.* The word has modern usage in Freemasonry to apply to those who pretend to be a mason without having undergone the initiation rites.
I received Efram Mallach’s submission but in my caffeine-deprived state saw his birthday wishes and missed that there was a definition included, and marked it “unrelated” in the software.* Sadly this meant you didn’t get a chance to see his wit, and I hope 2 dealer points compensates him for the votes he would otherwise have received.
