Annnnnnnnnnnnnd......... it's a photo finish!

As many of you have probably determined by now, euouae (sometimes
evovae) is a particular type of Gregorian chant, from "Seculorum amen."

In my search for a woid, I perused the usual "strange words" sites, and
found a few claiming that EUOUAE was the longest word in the English
Language containing only vowels. Some sources claimed it was in
Webster's 2nd and Chambers dictionaries, although I could not find any
online confirmation of such, and my library did not have either
reference. I did, however, find a listing for eu-ou'æ in Funk &
Wagnall's New Standard Dictionary of the English Language, published in
1933, reproduced faithfully in definition #10 below.

I managed 24 hours with only Dave Cunningham voting for the real def,
but woke up to find Tim Lodge and Russ Heimerson had piled on to give me
a D3. John Barrs also privately sent me a DQ after recognizing the
trope once the definitions were posted.

There is a four-way tie for first place between Hugo Kornelis, John
Barrs, Tony Abell, and Scott Crom with 4 natural points each, and ties
broken in the order listed. Hugo, however, reported in his definition
submission that he is on holiday to Paris (France, not Texas) and is
unable to deal, so I will pass the dealing shoes on to JohnnyB.

For what it's worth, I still haven't received JohnnyB's original email
posting the woid via email. It's been 9 1/2 hours. At least there were
multiple replies alerting me to its existence so I could send a def.

I suspect that those of us playing by Email will have to adopt a policy
of checking for the new word, word list, and results announcements in
either the Cory group or at tapcis.com if those are not received via
Email when expected. I don't know what a long-term solution to the
problems might be.

For me, Email is an easy way to play. I tend to check my Email daily,
whereas I don't look at tapcis.com as frequently. And people have a
choice of Email software, which is nice. If necessary, I would be
willing to play in the Yahoo group or tapcis.com, though. It just
wouldn't be as convenient.

I agree as well, of course, and check frequently enough that I'll probably
not miss anything here. Probably.

(P.S., I still haven't received Guerri's message quoted below via email.)
(P.P.S., A long term solution would be a less monolithic mailing list.)

Not delivered to my email (yet). It shows up on the yahoo site, though, so I
know it made it out to some subset of list subscribers. :)
